Community Garden

Have you seen the garden lately? Wow!

The fruits of our labor are really becoming evident. The flower seeds from Dave R. have blossomed into an amazing display of color and great pollinators for the veggies!

Get updates to the Garden project on Facebook!

Last month, some Hall Ave neighbors came by and expressed their appreciation while we were working, and Don from 56 West provided us with free drinks. We planted spinach and kale seeds in the empty areas of the southeast quad (where the carrot seeds never really germinated), so be aware of that when you're in the garden.

Some of us have been gardening in the mornings too, to avoid some of this heat - if you'd like to set up a regular morning gardening day (Jackie O'Toole suggested this group be called the "Morning Glories"), let me know. Otherwise, just let me know how much time you're putting in so I can get that info to the stewardship committee. Does anyone need/want a copy of the shed key?

On a different note, it took the weeds and pests a year to find the Garden, but have they ever! I had to pull out all the zucchini/squash plants as something had cut them off right at the stem : (  If anyone has suggestions about how to handle the insect issue without chemicals, do share! In the meantime, doing some research...

The Garden and those it feeds (in more ways than one!) would not be what it is without your help, your hands, your hearts- thank you.

Katie
